About this spot

This is a citizens' park that makes use of the natural surroundings of Mount Kagamiyama (鏡山), spreading across the western part of Higashihiroshima City. Walking along the paths laid out on the mountain slope, you can look out from the observation plaza over the city of Higashihiroshima and the mountains beyond. The wide lawn plaza lets children run around freely, making it a perfect spot to burn off energy ahead of the night's fireworks. The park's look changes with the seasons — cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in early summer — and in summer the shade of the trees is cool, letting you enjoy a picnic-like mood. Spend a relaxed time in nature until evening, before the fireworks begin.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from JR Saijo Station (JR西条駅); local buses are also available, but check the schedule in advance. The park has ups and downs, so young children should wear comfortable walking shoes. Restrooms are available within the park. Insects increase from evening onward, so don't forget insect repellent spray while you're at this park.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 45 minutes. The afternoon dappled sunlight through the trees is pleasant, and you can enjoy the view from the observation plaza.
