In the heart of Toyohashi City, spreading out on the bank of the Toyo River (豊川), Toyohashi Park (豊橋公園) is a historical park developed on the ruins of Yoshida Castle (吉田城), which dates back to the Sengoku period. The reconstructed Tetsu Yagura turret (鉄櫓) is one of Toyohashi's symbols, and together with the stone walls, it conveys a sense of the castle's former appearance today. Walking the park's promenade brings you close to the flow of the Toyo River, and you can even check from here the direction where tonight's fireworks will launch. The spacious lawn plaza is also ideal for families to relax, so spend a while in the cool shade of the trees. Admission is free and it's easy to drop by, making it a great starting point for exploring Toyohashi.
Tips
About a 15-minute walk from Toyohashi Station (豊橋駅), or about a 5-minute walk after getting off the streetcar at the Shiyakusho-mae stop (市役所前電停). The exterior of the Tetsu Yagura turret can be viewed for free. Restrooms are available in the park. Since fireworks spectators increase from evening onward, it's recommended to take a leisurely stroll during the day before it gets crowded.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. The bright daytime hours let you fully enjoy the scenery along the Toyo River and the atmosphere of the castle ruins
