Standing just beside Toyohashi Park, this Romanesque-style building with an impressive rounded dome tower is registered as a nationally designated tangible cultural property and a symbolic landmark of Toyohashi. The imposing exterior viewed from the top of the stairs is perfect for photography and ideal for family commemorative shots. Historic streetcars run along the main street in front of the building, allowing you to capture Toyohashi's unique landscape with both the retro building and the streetcar in one frame. Children who love trains will be mesmerized by the passing streetcars.
Tips
The exterior is open for free viewing; the interior can be accessed during events and activities. It's just a short walk from Toyohashi Park where Yoshida Castle stands, making it easy to get there. To photograph with the streetcar, aim for traffic light stops to capture safely.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 30 minutes. The late afternoon light creates beautiful shadows and highlights on the building.
