Cross the Bridge to a Small Island Floating in Mikawa Bay and Visit Yaomotomi Shrine
About this spot
A small island with a circumference of approximately 680 meters floating in Mikawa Bay, connected to the shore by the 387-meter Takeshima Bridge. The entire island is the sacred precinct of Yaomotomi Shrine (八百富神社), and as you cross the bridge and proceed along the approach path, you are greeted by a vermillion torii gate and shrine building. Native subtropical plants grow naturally on the island, and it has been designated a National Natural Monument with rich remaining nature. From the bridge and the island's perimeter, Mikawa Bay stretches 360 degrees, and you can enjoy the sea breeze while confirming the direction where fireworks will rise this evening. The sea's color near sunset is exceptional, and this is a fitting place to spend time before the fireworks.

蒲郡まつりのクライマックスを飾る納涼花火大会で、2026年7月26日(日)19時30分から21時00分まで開催されます。竹島ふ頭周辺から打ち上げられる約5,000発は、三河湾の広い海面を舞台に色とりどりの大輪が次々と開きます。穏やかな内湾ならではの静けさの中で、花火の音が海面に反響し、水面に映る光の揺らぎも見どころのひとつです。正面に竹島のシルエットを配した夜景の中で鑑賞できる、蒲郡ならではのロケーションが魅力。フィナーレに向けて連発が続く終盤は、海と空を同時に埋め尽くす光の洪水が圧巻です。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は蒲郡市または大会公式発表を事前に確認してください。終了後はJR蒲郡駅周辺が大変混み合います。フィナーレ後は少し時間をおいてから移動するか、時間差での帰宅が快適です。足元が暗くなるため、スマホのライトや小さなランタンがあると安心。帰りの電車の混雑に備えて、終電の時刻を事前に確認しておきましょう。

1 minute on foot from Takeshima Aquarium. Takeshima Bridge and island exploration are free. A visit to Yaomotomi Shrine is also free. The bridge can be windy, so hold the hands of small children while crossing. The island's walking trails have elevation changes, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Mosquitoes may appear in the evening, so prepare insect repellent.
Best time to visit
Approximately 50 minutes required. The light of Mikawa Bay before sunset beautifully illuminates the water's surface.
