Otogawa River Green Space (乙川河川緑地)

Flow of the course

About this spot

An urban green space in Okazaki City, opened in 1978 (Showa 53), stretching along the Otogawa River (乙川) that flows past Okazaki Castle. The Otogawa River is a Class 1 river and the largest tributary of the Yahagi River (矢作川), and this stretch has been developed as the Otogawa Riverfront (乙川リバーフロント), becoming one of the city's leading spots for walking and cycling. On the evening of the fireworks display, food stalls line up and the festival atmosphere builds. Once you've spread out your leisure sheet and secured a spot, enjoy the dinner you picked up while the river breeze blows. As the sun sinks, the silhouette of Okazaki Castle rises against the sky, offering scenery unique to dusk in a castle town.

Tips

About a 15-minute walk from Meitetsu Higashi-Okazaki Station (名鉄東岡崎駅). On the evening of the fireworks display, the surrounding roads and public transportation become extremely crowded. Lines at food stalls and shops get long after 18:00, so it's reassuring to get your food early. Some parts of the riverbank have hard ground, so a thick leisure sheet or a small cushion will keep you comfortable.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 30 minutes. The time when Okazaki Castle is dyed by the sunset sky is scenery unique to a summer evening in a castle town
