The Sanjo Summer Festival Grand Fireworks Display is a fireworks show of about 4,000 shells held from 19:30 to 21:30 on Saturday, August 1, at the Kamisugoro floodplain (上須頃堤外地) on the Shinano River (信濃川). Making the most of the Shinano River's wide expanse, the launch is unobstructed, and its charm lies in the grand scale that spreads across the entire sky. From the floodplain of the riverbed, a vast night sky opens up right in front of you, letting you feel with your whole body the power of large fireworks blooming almost overhead. The upside-down reflections of fireworks on the water's surface, and the launch sounds resonating together with the river breeze, are experiences unique to the Shinano River. Please check on the day of the event with the official announcement from Sanjo City or the event organizer as to whether it will proceed in bad weather. After the event ends, the surrounding roads and routes home become congested all at once. It's recommended to stay and enjoy the afterglow for a while before moving, staggering your departure. It gets dark underfoot, so a small light is reassuring to have.
