The Nikko Fireworks Festival (日光花火大会) opens at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, with about 5,000 shells launched from the venue at Nikko Daiyagawa Park (日光だいや川公園) and Maruyama Park (丸山公園). Nestled among the mountains, the venue lets sound echo off the surrounding peaks, giving the fireworks' bursts a unique force that resonates through your whole body. The way light shimmers on the surface of the Daiya River (大谷川) is also a highlight unique to a fireworks display set among the mountains, and looking up at the fireworks from the park's wide lawn fills your entire field of view with tremendous force. Even after the rapid-fire finale that colors Nikko's summer night sky comes to an end, take some time to savor the lingering glow in the clear mountain air.

Tips

Check official announcements from Nikko City or the event organizer to see whether the event will proceed in case of severe weather. Afterward, roads around the venue get congested, so check shuttle bus and return train times in advance. To avoid the crowds right after the show ends, it's recommended to wait a while within the park before moving after the finale. Since it gets dark underfoot, a small light will be useful on the way back.
