About this spot

A vast park spreading along the banks of the Daiya River (大谷川), one of the main venues for the Nikko Fireworks Festival (日光花火大会). It has a well-maintained wide lawn area, bustling with families spreading out picnic sheets as they wait for the fireworks. Toward evening, the sun sets behind the mountain ridge, and the way the Daiya River's surface shifts from orange to indigo is a beauty unique to a park nestled among the mountains. It's important to head to the venue early from central Nikko to secure a good spot. Food stalls and vendor stands line the area too, so you can restock on dinner or drinks right at the venue.

Tips

About 15-20 minutes by bus or car from Tobu-Nikko Station (東武日光駅) or JR Nikko Station (JR日光駅). Special shuttle buses may run on the day of the fireworks, so check the latest transportation information through Nikko City's official announcements. The earlier you claim a spot, the better, and locating the restrooms right after you arrive will put your mind at ease for the evening.

Allow about 1 hour 15 minutes. Take your time enjoying the mountain ridgeline at dusk and the shifting colors on the river's surface.
