Located in the Hama-Otsu area, this lakeside green space along Lake Biwa is a place where you can feel the vastness of Japan's largest freshwater lake as it truly is. Walking paths are maintained along the lake, allowing you to approach the water's edge and feel the cool breeze from the lake surface. Simply strolling while enjoying views of Mount Hiei and the mountain ranges on the opposite shore conveys the grand scale of Lake Biwa—a different experience from typical urban fireworks festivals. Confirming the location off Otsu Port where the fireworks will be launched during the day helps you visualize your viewing spot for the evening. Since viewing crowds rapidly increase after evening on the festival day, the afternoon is the best time to leisurely enjoy the lakeside.

2026年8月6日(木)19時30分から20時30分にかけて、大津市・滋賀県営大津港沖の水面一帯から約10,000発が打ち上がるびわ湖大花火大会です。日本最大級の淡水湖である琵琶湖の広大な水面と夜空を舞台に、スターマインや大玉など多彩な仕掛けが次々と繰り広げられます。湖面に映る逆さ花火が連動して広がる光景は、海辺や陸上の花火大会では得られない独特の美しさです。周囲に遮るものがなく、空が広く開けた湖上からの打ち上げは、どこから見ても視界いっぱいに花火が広がります。フィナーレの連発で琵琶湖全体が光に包まれる瞬間は、1日のすべての時間がここに収束するクライマックスです。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表を確認してください。終了後は京阪びわ湖浜大津駅・JR大津駅周辺が大変混雑します。フィナーレ後はその場でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから移動すると、混雑を避けやすいです。帰りの電車の時刻は事前に確認しておき、混雑に備えて時間に余裕を持った計画を立てましょう。足元が暗い場所もあるのでライトを活用してください。

About 3 minutes on foot from Keihan Hama-Otsu Station, about 10 minutes on foot from JR Otsu Station. No admission fee. There is little shade along the lakeside, so bringing a parasol or hat is recommended. Convenience stores are available around the stations for obtaining drinks and snacks.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. The daytime lake surface is brightest at this time, making it easiest to appreciate the vastness of Lake Biwa.
