Approximately 10,000 fireworks launched from Otsu Port, illuminating Lake Biwa's water and the night sky
About this spot
On Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, approximately 10,000 fireworks will launch from the waters off Otsu City's Shiga Prefectural Otsu Port. On the stage of Japan's largest freshwater lake's vast water surface and night sky, diverse displays including starmines and large balls unfold in succession. The sight of reflected inverted fireworks on the lake surface spreading in coordination creates a unique beauty impossible to obtain at seaside or land-based fireworks festivals. With nothing obstructing the surroundings and wide-open sky, the launches from the lake ensure fireworks fill your entire field of vision from wherever you view. The moment the finale's rapid bursts engulf the entire Lake Biwa in light is the climax where all the day's moments converge.

Check the official festival announcement regarding whether the event will be held in case of bad weather. After the event, areas around Keihan Hama-Otsu Station and JR Otsu Station will be very crowded. After the finale, enjoying the lingering beauty for a while before moving helps you avoid the rush. Check train times in advance and plan with time to spare to prepare for congestion. Some areas have dark ground conditions, so use a light.
