About this spot

Nagahama City spreads across the northeastern part of Shiga Prefecture, along the northeastern shore of Lake Biwa. Surrounded by the mountains of the Ibuki range and Lake Biwa, it stretches across the Kohoku Plain formed by the Ane, Takatoki, and Yogo rivers, with lakeshore scenery where waterfowl gather. Traces of the Sengoku era and religious faith, such as Nagahama Castle, Mt. Shizugatake, and Hogon-ji Temple on Chikubu Island, are scattered throughout the city, which has also been called the 'Village of Kannon.' Lake Yogo, tonight's fireworks stage, is also in the northern part of this city, and walking its quiet shore, home to a robe-of-feathers legend, lets you also enjoy the autumn atmosphere as the mountain ridgelines begin to change color.

Tips

About a 3-minute walk from JR Yogo Station brings you to the lakeshore. The walking path is well maintained and easy to walk, but there is little lighting after sunset, so it's recommended to walk it during the daytime. Temperatures start to drop on October afternoons, so bring a jacket.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. On windless afternoons, the reflections on the lake surface look especially beautiful.
