Stroll through summer lotus and water lilies, as well as aquatic plants along Lake Biwa's waterside
About this spot
A park specializing in aquatic plants located on Karamatsuhantou Peninsula on the southern shore of Lake Biwa. From July through August, lotus plants are in full bloom, and the large flowers that spread across the entire pond represent one of Kusatsu's signature summer landscapes. The park also features a greenhouse called "Lotus Hall" where water lilies and tropical aquatic plants from around the world can be observed year-round. At this facility, you can feel the ecosystem of Lake Biwa's waterside up close, and visitors from small children to adults can enjoy themselves without getting bored. It is positioned right next to the Karamatsuhantou Grass Plaza, which is tonight's fireworks venue, making it an ideal daytime base for the day.

烏丸半島芝生広場を会場に開催されるSymphonic Starmineは、琵琶湖の広大な水面と夜空を舞台にした花火大会です。周囲に遮るものが少ない半島の先端から見上げる花火は視界いっぱいに広がり、静かな湖面に映り込む光の帯が独特の美しさを添えます。近江の山なみにこだまする打ち上げ音と、湖を渡る夜風が、夏の滋賀ならではの花火観覧体験をつくり出しています。名前が示すように、音楽に合わせた演出も見どころのひとつで、花火と音が一体となって打ち上がる瞬間はまさに交響曲の一場面のようです。
Tips
開催時刻や荒天時の中止・順延については、大会公式の最新情報を必ず事前に確認してください。終演後は来場者が一斉に動き出すため、駐車場や臨時バスが混雑します。花火終了後は芝生広場でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから移動すると、混雑のピークを避けやすくなります。帰りの足元は暗いため、小さなライトがあると安心です。
Tips
Access via Omi Bus from JR Kusatsu Station to Karamatsuhantou Bus Stop, or by car. Admission is approximately 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for elementary and middle school students (check official confirmation). The park opens in summer mornings, so it's recommended to enjoy the plants during the cooler morning hours before it gets hot. On the day of the fireworks festival, the parking lot may become congested from evening onwards, so if you're driving, be sure to confirm your parking location during the daytime.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. Lotus flowers are open from the morning through early afternoon, and can be observed most beautifully at this time.
