The school building complex of the former Toyosato Elementary School in Toyosato Town, Inukami District, Shiga Prefecture, completed in 1937 and designed by Vories. Characterized by reddish exterior walls and a staircase decorated with rabbit and turtle reliefs, it is designated as a Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property as representative modern architecture of the Ōmi region. Currently operated as a public facility of the town, the school buildings are open for free exploration. Walk through the old classrooms and corridors while discovering architectural details with your family. The location is close to the Aichi River riverbed and makes an ideal first stop on this course.
Tips
About 10 minutes on foot from Ōmi Railway Toyosato Station, or about 10 minutes by car from Aichi River Station. Admission is free. Parking available. Some areas inside allow photography while others have restrictions, so please follow local guidance. Restroom facilities are available on the premises.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. Morning to early afternoon offers fewer tourists and allows leisurely viewing.
