Tomioka Port (富岡港) is Reihoku Town's gateway and also the venue for tonight's fireworks display. Regular ferries to and from mainland Kumamoto come and go, and the simple atmosphere of the port lined with fishing boats embodies Amakusa's charm, not overly commercialized for tourism. Walking the coastline around the port, the sound of the calm inland sea's waves and the scent of the tide blend into the summer air, letting time pass leisurely. You can also check the location of the breakwater where tonight's fireworks will launch during the day, which will help with claiming a spot at night. For children, simply watching the boats moored at the port is plenty entertaining.

Tips

Within a 5-minute walk of the Tomioka Visitor Center (富岡ビジターセンター). Watch your step on the harbor quay. The summer daytime sun is strong, so don't forget a hat, sunscreen, and to stay hydrated. On the day of the fireworks, venue setup may begin from evening, so getting a sense of the layout during the day will make the night go smoothly.
