About this spot

This breakwater beside the Tomioka Port Passenger Terminal (富岡港船客待合所) is the viewing area closest to the launch site of the Reihoku Jatto Festival Fireworks Display. Arrive about an hour before the show and spread out a leisure sheet to claim a spot. At twilight, Tomioka Port shows a completely different, beautiful face from daytime, as the westering sun dyes the sea surface. As the lights of fishing boats begin to flicker on one by one and the scent of the tide builds along with the evening harbor atmosphere, it's a quiet luxury you won't find at big-city fireworks festivals. Enjoy this waiting time before the fireworks too, as part of a Reihoku summer night.

Tips

Drive back to Tomioka Port (富岡港) from the Roadside Station Amakusa Dolphin Center (道の駅 天草市イルカセンター). The breakwater surface is hard underfoot, so a thick leisure sheet or a folding cushion will make things more comfortable. Use the restroom at the passenger terminal early. Crowds gather just before the show starts, so it's best to be seated with time to spare before 8pm.

About 1 hour. Watch the sky change from twilight to night from the breakwater as you wait for the show to begin.
