About this spot

This is the gateway station to Kaga Onsen Village (加賀温泉郷), connecting the four hot springs of Yamashiro (山代), Yamanaka (山中), Katayamazu (片山津), and Awazu (粟津), and it underwent a major renovation with the extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen (北陸新幹線) in 2024. Inside the station and in the area in front of it, shops and a tourist information center dealing in Kaga specialties are gathered together, letting you see the region's souvenirs all at once, including Kaga bocha tea, Kutani ware (九谷焼), local Japanese sweets, and famous confections from Echizen and Kaga. It's convenient to stop by after visiting Natadera Temple (那谷寺) and pick up light snacks and drinks here before the evening fireworks. With plenty of benches around the station, it's easy to take a break, and it's also a good spot to spend the hot afternoon hours relaxing indoors in the cool.

Tips

About a 15-minute drive from Natadera Temple (那谷寺). Tourists tend to concentrate here from evening onward, so it's best to finish your souvenir shopping during this earlier time slot. Items that keep at room temperature, such as Kaga bocha tea or processed nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) products, are convenient to buy first and leave in the trunk so they don't become extra luggage to carry.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Relax indoors in the cool during the afternoon, making it an ideal rest before moving to the lakeshore in the evening.
