Next stop: A bath before the fireworks: refresh at a hot spring overlooking Lake ShibayamaAbout this spot
Lake Shibayama (柴山潟), adjacent to the hot-spring town of Katayamazu Onsen, is a calm freshwater lake about 14km in circumference. A promenade runs along the shore, letting you take a leisurely stroll while gazing at the Ukimido (浮御堂) hall floating on the lake. Tonight's fireworks are launched from over this lake, making the lakeshore the best viewing spot. Secure a spot early, lay out a leisure sheet, and enjoy the meal you picked up earlier while cooling off in the evening. The time when the lake surface is dyed by the setting sun is exceptionally beautiful, and together with the sight of the hot-spring town's ryokan reflected on the water, it creates a summer twilight scene unique to Katayamazu Onsen. Enjoying this time before the fireworks at your leisure is an important part of the day's course.
Tips
About a 10-minute drive from Kaga Onsen Station (加賀温泉駅), or accessible by bus. On the evening of the fireworks, the lakeside parking lot fills up early, so arrive by the early 4pm hour at the latest. Check the location of the public restrooms along the lakeshore. Food stalls sometimes appear, but their selection is limited, so it's reassuring to bring your meal ahead of time.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 30 minutes. The changing colors of the lake surface around sunset and the silhouette of the Ukimido hall are spectacular.
