The Kaga Onsen Gorge Cool Fireworks Festival in Katayamazu Onsen is held nightly from 9 PM for approximately 10 minutes from August 1 (Saturday) to August 30 (Sunday), 2026, a summer evening tradition. Fireworks launch from above Shibayama Lagoon, and the "reflected fireworks" (逆さ花火) where the quiet lake surface reflects the light of the fireworks is a major highlight. The composition where the silhouette of the floating temple on the lake overlaps with the large fireworks blooms is a painterly scene you can only encounter at Katayamazu Onsen. Though approximately 200 fireworks is a modest number, the 10-minute duration of continuous launches is dense and impressive. In this fantastical space created by the lights of hot spring inns and reflection on the water, fully savor Kaga's summer night.

In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled or postponed, so check the official announcement from Kaga City or Katayamazu Onsen Tourism Association on the day for confirmation of whether the event will be held. After the fireworks end, the parking lot and roads around the lakeside and hot spring district become crowded, so rather than leaving immediately, enjoy the afterglow by the lake before heading home to avoid traffic congestion. Since the festival is held nightly afterward, you can also consider trying again the next day in case of bad weather.

Best time to visit

From 9:00 PM to 9:10 PM according to the scheduled time. Be seated on a leisure sheet in a spot with a view of the lake 15–20 minutes before the start.
