About this spot

The Soyu (総湯), Katayamazu Onsen's communal bathhouse, is a modern day-use hot-spring facility standing on the shore of Lake Shibayama. The smooth chloride spring water is also known as the beauty bath (美人の湯) and warms you gently from the core. The building has large windows facing the lake, and the biggest draw is being able to enjoy the view of Lake Shibayama while bathing. A smart plan is to enter around 6pm to refresh yourself with plenty of time before the 9pm fireworks start, then head to the viewing spot. Towels and amenities can be purchased or rented at the facility, so you can stop by even empty-handed.

Tips

Within walking distance of the viewing area along Lake Shibayama's shore. Admission is around 500 yen for adults (prices may change, so check the official website). On the evening of the fireworks, it gets crowded with both locals and tourists, so an early entry between 5 and 6pm is recommended. After bathing, dry off thoroughly and put on a light jacket before heading to the lakeshore.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. Work backward from your entry time so you can finish bathing about an hour before the fireworks begin.
