Approximately 8,000 Fireworks Illuminate the Sagamigawa's Night Sky for 75 Minutes

About this spot

The Sagamihara Cooling Fireworks Festival is held upstream of Takada Bridge on the Sagamigawa River, the summer-ending fireworks festival for Sagamihara City. Approximately 8,000 starbursts and large shells are launched one after another utilizing the wide river, illuminating the vast space including the hills on the opposite shore. The reflection of fireworks on the water surface of the Sagamigawa is beautiful, and the open view unique to a riverside location is the charm. Viewing fireworks in the cool night breeze of early September, as summer comes to an end, deepens the sentiment profoundly. Enjoy the 75-minute program leisurely from the riverbank.

Tips

Check the official Sagamihara City announcement for cancellation due to bad weather. After the event, surrounding roads and the nearest station will be very crowded. After the finale, don't leave immediately; enjoy the afterglow by the riverbed for a while before heading home—this is the trick to avoiding congestion. The night path on the way back can be dark in some places, so having a small light is reassuring.

Best time to visit

Timed with the 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM event hours. Arrive and be seated 30 minutes before the start to wait for the night sky to darken.
