Held annually on August 16, Obon, this is a signature summer festival representing Tsuruga. Approximately 10,000 fireworks launched from offshore the Kehi Pine Grove seashore paint the night sky of the open Tsuruga Bay with overwhelming scale. Held on the same day as Tourou Nagashi, this creates a fantastical sight rarely seen nationwide, where fireworks rise amid countless glowing tourou drifting on the water's surface. The contrast between the quiet light of the tourou sending off the deceased and the thunderous sound and brilliant light of the fireworks becomes deeply etched in viewers' hearts. For 45 minutes, watch the grand displays of fireworks filling the night sky alongside the sound of waves from the sandy beach with your family.

In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled or postponed, so check the official announcement from Tsuruga City or the official festival website on the day. After the finale, return traffic concentrates and buses and taxis will be very crowded. Enjoy the lingering atmosphere on the beach after the finale, then shift your timing and move safely by illuminating your path with a light. Parking lots fill up early, so use of public transportation is strongly recommended.
