Next stop: Approximately 10,000 fireworks and Obon's tourou (lantern) drifting converge—the spectacular summer night landscape of TsurugaAbout this spot
The Kehi Pine Grove seashore in the evening is the most quiet and beautiful hour of the day, where the sunset beyond the pine forest and the calm waters of Tsuruga Bay change color moment by moment. Spread out a leisure sheet to secure your viewing spot, and prepare your stomach with packed food or food stall offerings before the fireworks. As the sun sets, tourou (lanterns) released into the sea for Obon begin to glow, creating a fantastical sight as tiny orange flames sway in the waves. This scene that begins even before the fireworks launch is what sets Tsuruga's fireworks festival apart.
Tips
Approximately 15 minutes by bus from JR Tsuruga Station or approximately 10 minutes by taxi. On the fireworks day, many food stalls appear around the venue, but due to crowding, it's safer to purchase drinks and light snacks at the station area. Check the location of restrooms while it's still light. After the performance, transportation is congested, so plan bus and taxi arrangements in advance.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 35 minutes required. Especially recommended is just before and after sunset when the tourou lights begin spreading across the sea.
