A large-scale festival with six venues operating simultaneously—including the Shinoyama and Kyomachi venues—the Chikugo River Fireworks Festival's defining characteristic is that each venue offers a different viewing angle. A diverse program featuring starmines, large hanabi shells, and set-piece fireworks unfolds in sequence, with the inverted fireworks reflected beautifully on the wide water surface not to be missed. Check the official festival announcement on the day for confirmation of whether the event will proceed in case of inclement weather. Immediately after the finale, visitors depart en masse, making the areas around Nishi-Tetsukurume Station and JR Kurume Station extremely congested. It's recommended to linger on the floodplain for a while after the finale to soak in the afterglow, then depart at a staggered time. The floodplain's return path has areas with limited lighting, so use your smartphone's flashlight to move safely.
