Pay respects at this ancient shrine nestled in a sanctuary lined with towering camphor trees, walking through the spring-green approach path

About this spot

Kashii Shrine (香椎宮) is the head shrine of all Kashii Shrines throughout Japan, with Emperor Chūai and Empress Jingū as its principal deities. It is just a short walk from JR Kashii Shrine-mae Station (香椎宮前駅) and approximately 10 minutes on foot from Nishi-Tetsutsu Kashii Station (西鉄香椎駅). The approach path is lined with ancient camphor trees several centuries old, and the sanctuary's spring foliage gleams vibrantly—the perfect serene start before tonight's lively fireworks festival. The main hall features a unique architectural style called "Kashii-zukuri" (香椎造), a rare and precious construction method found nowhere else in Japan. The expansive grounds allow for a leisurely full circuit, including auxiliary shrines and a pond. If you wish to receive a commemorative seal (goshuin), the shrine office handles these, so allow time for your visit.

Tips
