About this spot

This general park on the north side of Ashiya Town, bordering the Hibiki Sea (響灘), is a nature-rich spot with a wide lawn plaza and a stretch of white beach. On summer afternoons the sea breeze is pleasant, and just walking along the water's edge lifts your spirits. In the distance you can see the Sanri Matsubara pine forest (三里松原), and the open view of the horizon offers a sense of openness quite different from the city. It is also close to the mouth of the Onga River, tonight's fireworks venue, making it the perfect place to start the afternoon by breathing in plenty of sea air. The lawn plaza, known as Wanpark (わんぱーく), is equipped with play equipment, benches, and tables, so families with small children can relax with peace of mind.

Tips

A few minutes by car from central Ashiya Town, with parking available. It gets crowded during the swimming season, so early arrival is recommended. If you plan to walk on the sand, it is handy to bring sandals and a change of clothes. Since the sun is strong at this time of day, a hat and sunscreen are essential.
