The Ashiya Fireworks Festival is held from 20:00 to 21:00 on Saturday, July 25, 2026, launched upstream of Ashiya Bridge near the mouth of the Onga River. About 5,000 fireworks bloom one after another in the summer night sky, and together with their mirror image reflected on the surface of the Onga River, a world of fireworks spreads across both the sky and the water. Large shells that make full use of the wide river near the mouth, along with the finale's rapid-fire barrage, are highly impressive, and being able to enjoy them head-on with nothing blocking the view from the riverbank is this festival's appeal. Spend an hour of a summer night with the fireworks on the Onga River, where the river breeze feels pleasant.

In case of bad weather, check Ashiya-machi's official announcement on the day for whether the event will go ahead. Afterward, roads and parking lots around the venue get very crowded, so it is reassuring either to wait a while before leaving after the fireworks end or to check a walking access route in advance. Since the riverbank is dark underfoot on the way back, make use of a flashlight or your smartphone's light.
