Wakato Ferry, Wakamatsu Pier (若戸渡船 若松渡場)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This is the waterfront area in the center of Wakamatsu Ward, facing Dokai Bay. Wakato Bridge, as seen from the ferry terminal, is a symbol of Kitakyushu known as Asia's largest suspension bridge when it opened in 1962. Tonight, the fireworks will be launched against the backdrop of this bridge. Retro warehouse rows and stone buildings that tell the history of the area's support for modern industry as a coal-shipping port remain along the bay, and simply strolling through this port-town atmosphere heightens the feeling of travel. The ferry (若戸渡船, Wakato Ferry) is a small municipal boat that costs around 100 yen for adults, making it a popular mini boat trip for children too.

Tips

About a 5-minute walk from JR Wakamatsu Station. The Wakato Ferry runs frequently, so it is easy to make a round trip to the Tobata side across the bay. The waterfront gets breezy, so long sleeves are comfortable even on an autumn afternoon. There are restaurants and shops nearby, so having a light lunch in this area makes it easier to get moving in the afternoon.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. On a clear afternoon, Wakato Bridge stands out beautifully against the blue sky, making it a great time for photos
