Visit the Serene Precincts with the Nationally Designated Nagaoka and Ancient Cedar Trees
About this spot
Shingū Kumano Shrine in Yamato (山都), Kitakata is an ancient shrine known for its nationally designated important cultural property, the "Nagaoka (ながとこ)." The Nagaoka is an open-style worship hall featuring only columns without walls, and the beauty of the large wooden pillars standing in neat rows is breathtaking. The precincts are lined with ancient cedar trees hundreds of years old, with cool, refreshing air permeating even in summer. Surrounded by rice fields and mountains in a quiet setting, this is a recommended stop to calm your spirit before the lively fireworks festival. While autumn's ginkgo trees are especially famous, the vibrant greenery of summer precincts also has its charm.
