About this spot
The center of Kakunodate, called "the Little Kyoto of Michinoku," is a nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings. The avenue lined with black-tiled walls and samurai residences continuing from the Edo period often sees weeping cherry blossoms in full bloom in late April, creating a landscape representative of spring in Kakunodate. Samurai mansions open to the public, such as the Ishiguro and Aoyagi families, allow visitors to observe how people lived during that era, allowing both adults and children to experience the atmosphere of history firsthand. When the fireworks festival coincides with cherry blossom season, the contrast between daytime samurai mansions and nighttime fireworks enriches travel memories.

2026年4月25日(土)19時から20時30分まで、秋田県大仙市・雄物川河畔の「大曲の花火」公園を会場に開催される、大曲の花火 春の章「新作花火コレクション2026 世界の花火 日本の花火」です。打ち上げ数は約8,000発。世界と日本の花火師がその年の新作を発表し合うコレクション形式のプログラムは、8月の全国花火競技大会と並ぶ大曲ならではの花火イベントです。各花火師が趣向を凝らした新作を次々と披露するため、1発ごとに異なる個性と技術を楽しめるのが最大の魅力。春の澄んだ夜空に開く大輪の花火は、夏の大会とはまた異なる鮮やかさと静けさを持ち、川面に映る光の帯とともに忘れられない夜の記憶を刻んでくれます。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大仙市・大会公式サイトの発表を必ず確認してください。終了後はJR大曲駅周辺が大変混雑します。帰りの電車・バスの時刻を事前に調べ、混雑のピークを少しずらして帰宅するのがおすすめです。会場は4月下旬でも夜間は非常に冷えるため、厚手の防寒着は必携。足元が暗いエリアもあるので小型ライトがあると安心です。

About 15-20 minutes from JR Omagari Station via Akita Shinkansen or Ou Main Line to Kakunodate Station. The samurai mansion avenue is about a 15-minute walk from Kakunodate Station. Admission fees for each mansion range from around 100-500 yen depending on the facility. Trains become congested after the fireworks festival on the day, so plan your return to Omagari with plenty of time.
Best time to visit
Takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. The afternoon oblique sunlight hitting the black-tiled walls creates an atmospheric ambiance.
