Michi-no-Eki Iwaki (道の駅 岩城), located along National Route 7, is a rest stop where you can enjoy Akita's flavors with the Sea of Japan right in front of you. It offers fresh seafood landed at local fishing ports along with Akita specialties like ibirigakko pickles and junsai (water shield), and the dining area lets you eat while gazing at the sea. On clear days, you can see the blue Sea of Japan stretching offshore and the silhouette of Mount Chokai to the south, capturing the open, breezy feeling unique to Akita's coast. The spacious parking lot also makes it easy to access by car, which is convenient for families.

Tips

Located along National Route 7, about 4 km south of Michikawa Fishing Port (道川漁港). The parking lot is free and spacious, making it easy to park. The dining area can get crowded around lunchtime, so it's a good idea to arrive early, or get takeout from the shop and eat on the outdoor terrace. Local seafood and processed goods also make great souvenirs.
