About this spot

A large-scale fireworks display of about 20,000 shells set against the backdrop of Oarai Sun Beach (大洗サンビーチ). With nothing to block the view, the fireworks bloom across the wide open Pacific sky, giving a sense of openness completely different from inland fireworks festivals. The large blossoms bursting over the sea carry rich, resonant sound, and sitting on the sand looking up, the light and sound hit your whole body. A varied program of star mines and large shells colors the night sky, and the rapid-fire bursts building toward the finale get the crowd thoroughly excited. Enjoyed with the sea breeze of a September night, this is Oarai's grandest night of the year.

Tips

Check the official announcement on the day for the exact schedule (time not yet fixed). Follow the festival's official information regarding cancellation or postponement due to bad weather. Roads and parking lots around the venue get very crowded afterward, so either wait a while after the fireworks end before heading back, or check a walking route toward Oarai Station (大洗駅) in advance. It's dark underfoot, so a phone light or headlamp is reassuring to have.
