The Omura Natsugoshi Fireworks Festival is a leading summer fireworks display in Nagasaki Prefecture, launched from a barge floating off the coast of Boat Race Omura on Omura Bay. About 5,000 fireworks bloom one after another in the night sky over Omura Bay, with the large blossoms of light reflected on the bay's calm surface, creating a spectacular sight where you can enjoy the fireworks in both the sky and the sea. When the roar announcing the launch, around 9:30 p.m., echoes across the bay, the climax has finally arrived. The power of the sound reverberating off the mountains surrounding Omura Bay is a grand scale unique to the seaside. The moment the night sky is enveloped in a sheet of light during the finale's continuous barrage is the perfect way to close out this day.

Tips

Check Omura City's or the festival's official announcement in advance for whether the event will proceed in bad weather. Since the surrounding roads and Omura Station get very crowded afterward, it's recommended to enjoy the afterglow by the water for a while after the fireworks end and then head out a bit later, staggered from the crowd. Some parts of the way home are dark underfoot, so a small light is reassuring.
