Sasebo City's municipal zoo and botanical garden spreads atop a hill in Kujukushima within the Saikai National Park. As Nagasaki Prefecture's largest zoo, it houses approximately 130 species of animals, offering close encounters with child-friendly animals like penguins and red pandas. From elevated areas within the garden, you can also view the multi-island beauty of Kujukushima, allowing you to enjoy both animal observation and scenic views simultaneously. This garden's size is perfect for a leisurely family afternoon before the fireworks festival, keeping both children and adults entertained. With reasonable admission fees, it's one of Sasebo's signature tourist spots.

させぼシーサイドフェスティバルは、佐世保市総合グラウンド陸上競技場を会場に開催される花火大会です。2026年9月5日(土)・6日(日)の両日、19時30分から20時にかけて約2,000発が夜空に打ち上げられます。海に近い開放的なロケーションで、潮風を感じながら見上げる花火は港町ならではの趣。コンパクトな打ち上げ時間に詰め込まれた2,000発は次々と色を変えながら夜空を彩り、フィナーレは会場全体が歓声に包まれます。1日かけて巡った佐世保の海と街の記憶とともに、忘れられない初秋の夜になるはずです。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は大会公式発表で確認を。終了直後は周辺道路と駐車場が大変混雑します。花火終了後は少し時間をおいてから移動するか、徒歩での分散帰宅がおすすめです。足元が暗くなるためライトを用意しておきましょう。

Tips

Approximately 20 minutes by car from Yumibari-dake Observatory. Bus access from Sasebo Station is also available. Admission: adults 520 yen, children free (depending on age). Note the closing time and plan to depart before 5 PM.
