The Suwa Lake Festival Fireworks on the Lake Grand Spectacular is held annually on August 15 and is Suwa's greatest summer festival. Fireworks launched from Suwa Lake create an impressive spectacle with sound amplified by the basin topography surrounded by mountains on all sides, reverberating through your entire being. The "reverse fireworks" reflected on the tranquil lake surface is a sight unique to lakeside fireworks displays. The interplay of fireworks illuminating the night sky, mountain silhouettes, and light spreading across the lake is a sight worthy of closing out a Shinshū summer. The rapid-fire bursts toward the finale create an overwhelming spectacle and will surely become your most precious summer memory.

Tips

Check the official festival announcement in advance regarding possible cancellation due to bad weather. After the display ends, JR Kami-Suwa Station and surrounding roads become extremely congested. Rather than leaving immediately after the finale, it is recommended to linger lakeside to savor the experience before departing at a staggered time. Some areas have dim lighting, so carrying a small light source is advisable.

Best time to visit

Timed with the 7:00 PM start. Arriving at your viewing location 30 minutes before the start allows you to enjoy the display with plenty of comfort.
