The Shinshū Chikuma City Chikuma River Cool Evening Fireworks Festival is held between Taishō Bridge and Man'yō Bridge along the Togura Kamiyamada Onsen Chikuma River waterfront, representing Nagano Prefecture's premier summer fireworks display. Approximately 10,000 fireworks burst successively into the night sky, with sound reverberating through the mountain valley and resonating to your very core with overwhelming force. The reflected fireworks mirrored on the Chikuma River's calm surface showcase a beauty unique to riverside viewing. Against the charming nightscape of the hot spring town, the light show painting Shinshū's summer night sky captivates continuously until the finale of rapid-fire bursts illuminates the entire sky and river. This hour and a half of intermingling river murmur and fireworks sound becomes a summer memory uniquely Shinshū, impossible to experience in the city.

Tips

Check in advance with Chikuma City or the official festival announcement regarding cancellation due to inclement weather. After the show, surrounding roads and parking areas become extremely congested. It's recommended to linger at the riverside enjoying the afterglow before departing in stages to ease congestion. The path back toward Shinano Railway Togura Station has dark spots, so carrying a small light is advisable for safety.

Best time to visit

During the 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM event hours. A riverside position allows you to enjoy the reflected fireworks as well. Secure your spot at least 30 minutes before the start.
