Suwa Taisha is the head shrine of approximately 25,000 Suwa shrines nationwide, with four shrine buildings combined in the Upper and Lower Shrines. The Lower Shrine Akimiya, located in Shimosuwa Town, makes an impressive impression with its dignified grounds, where visitors are greeted by the large sacred rope of the kagura hall and gigantic cedar trees with deep roots. In the Onbashira Festival held once every seven years, sacred posts are replaced at the four corners of the shrine buildings through solemn rituals. Known as one of Japan's oldest shrines, Suwa Taisha's summer grounds are enveloped in lush green vegetation, and a leisurely walk through the cool grounds after paying respects will refresh your spirit.

諏訪湖サマーナイト花火は、7月24日から8月23日まで毎晩20時30分に開催される、夏の諏訪を代表する花火の祭典です。諏訪湖上の台船から打ち上がる花火は、周囲の山々に音が反響して体に響く迫力があり、静かな湖面に映り込む「逆さ花火」の美しさは湖上打ち上げならではの見せ場です。高原の澄んだ夜空に開く大輪の花火は色鮮やかで、標高750mの涼しい夜風の中で眺めると、都市の花火大会とはひと味違う清々しさがあります。毎晩開催されるため天候が心配な場合は翌日以降への振り替えも検討できるのが、この大会ならではの安心感です。

Tips

開催可否は当日の気象状況により変わるため、諏訪市観光協会など公式の発表を必ず確認してください。終了後は上諏訪駅方面への帰路が混み合います。湖畔で少し余韻を楽しんでから、時間差での帰宅がおすすめです。JR中央本線の最終電車時刻は事前に確認しておきましょう。

Tips

About 20 minutes by bus from Kamsuwa Station, or about 10 minutes on foot from Shimosuwa Station. Entry is free. Wear comfortable walking shoes as the grounds are extensive. If you wish to receive a commemorative stamp (goshuin), check the shrine office's reception hours in advance. After your visit, return to the Kamsuwa Station area by bus or train.
