Lake Suwa Summer Night Fireworks is a signature summer fireworks event in Suwa, held nightly at 8:30 p.m. for about 10 minutes from Friday, July 24 through Sunday, August 23, 2026 (excluding August 15). Fireworks launched from the lake have an impact you can feel in your body as the sound echoes off the surrounding mountains, and the beauty of the upside-down fireworks reflected on the calm lake surface is a highlight unique to fireworks launched over water. The vividly colored blossoms of fireworks opening in the clear highland night sky look fresh and different from a city fireworks display when viewed in the cool night air at an elevation of 750 meters. Since the event is held on nearly every night during the period, another reassuring feature of this festival is that you can consider a later date if you're worried about the weather.

Whether the event goes ahead depends on the day's weather conditions, so be sure to check official announcements from sources such as the Suwa City Tourism Association. After the show, the route back toward Kami-Suwa Station gets crowded. It's recommended to enjoy the afterglow by the lake for a while and head home a bit later than the crowd. Check the last train time on the JR Chuo Main Line in advance.
