About this spot

Just west of Lake Nojiri lies the Kurohime Highlands, a vast highland area spreading out at the foot of Mt. Kurohime. In summer, you can enjoy pastures of unbroken green and colorful highland flowers, and a stroll through the clear air lets you forget the bustle of the city. The panoramic view of the Hokushin Five Peaks, including Mt. Kurohime and Mt. Myoko, is wonderfully open, and the grassy fields give children plenty of room to run around. Just about a 10-minute drive from Lake Nojiri, it's easy to reach and is a perfect area to spend a good stretch of the afternoon before heading back to the lakeshore in the evening. Store up the cool highland afternoon air before heading into the evening's fireworks.

Tips

About a 10-15 minute drive from the Lake Nojiri lakeshore. In summer, the Kurohime Highlands also has a cosmos garden and campground open. Sunlight is strong on the highlands, so don't forget a hat and sunscreen. Plan your timing so you head back to the Lake Nojiri lakeshore around 5 p.m.
