Numazu Port (沼津港), facing Suruga Bay, is one of Shizuoka Prefecture's leading fishing ports, surrounded by a dining district packed with restaurants serving fresh fish, conveyor-belt sushi shops, and dried fish specialty stores. The joy of a port lunch is being able to casually enjoy ingredients unique to Suruga Bay, such as deep-sea fish, sakura shrimp, and raw whitebait. Fill up on a fresh sashimi set meal or seafood rice bowl to kick off your fireworks day with energy. Dining while taking in the port scenery only heightens the sense of being on a trip. Crowds pick up considerably from evening onward on the day of the fireworks, so lunch is best enjoyed leisurely at this hour.

Tips

About 10 minutes by local bus from JR Numazu Station, or about a 25-minute walk. The dining district is centered around the large observation floodgate Byuo (びゅうお). Popular restaurants can form lines during weekend lunch hours, so aim to arrive right when they open or after 1 pm to get in more easily. Dried fish makes a good souvenir to buy in bulk on your way out.
