Kano River riverbank (狩野川河川敷)

Flow of the course

About this spot

The riverbank of the Kano River, which flows through central Numazu, is the main venue for the Numazu Summer Festival. Food stalls line both banks from Eitai Bridge to Ayumi Bridge, and the festival atmosphere builds rapidly from evening into night. This is the time to head to the riverbank, lay out a leisure sheet, and secure your viewing spot. Picking up classic summer festival fare like yakisoba and shaved ice from the stalls, then enjoying the cool evening air by the river while waiting for the show to start, is the quintessential Numazu summer experience. As the sunset colors on the water shift to indigo, anticipation builds little by little.

Tips

About a 15-minute drive from Senbonhama Park, or about a 15-minute walk from Numazu Station. Traffic restrictions are put in place near the riverbank on the day of the fireworks, so public transportation is convenient. Getting there early is key for securing a spot — arriving sometime between 5 and 6 pm should get you a relatively good location. Bring plenty of coins and small bills, since stalls typically only accept cash.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. The riverside around sunset offers an especially pleasant evening coolness.
