The Numazu Summer Festival and Kano River Fireworks Display is a major summer event representing eastern Shizuoka Prefecture, held on the Kano River riverbank in central Numazu. In 2026 (its 79th edition), the festival ran on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, and the fireworks display originally scheduled for the 26th was postponed and held on Monday, July 27 due to a forecast of rising river levels. The fireworks that bloom over the surface of the Kano River feature a varied program of wide starmines that make use of the river's width and underwater fireworks, with sound and light enveloping the whole riverbank. The appeal of this display is that you can enjoy powerful fireworks up close from anywhere along either bank between Eitai Bridge and Ayumi Bridge. The bands of colorful light reflected on the water, paired with the large blooms overhead, make for a climax fitting to close out the day.

Tips

Check the official announcements from the City of Numazu and the event organizers for whether the display will proceed in bad weather. The area around JR Numazu Station and Izuhakone Railway Numazu Station (伊豆箱根鉄道沼津駅) gets very crowded afterward. Waiting a bit on the riverbank right after the show ends can help ease the congestion when you move. Check train and bus schedules in advance for your return trip, and watch out for missing the last one. The path can get dark underfoot, so make use of your smartphone's flashlight function.

Best time to visit

Plan around the event time of 7:10 to 8:10 pm. Ideally, settle into your viewing spot with time to spare 30 minutes before the start.
