A roadside station standing along National Route 56 in Susaki City, this facility is also popular as a souvenir spot stocked with local fresh fish and Kochi specialty products. At the restaurant on-site, you can enjoy set meals and rice bowls made with seafood caught in the Tosa sea, making it a perfect local lunch. The clear Shinjo River (新荘川) flows near the building, and the facility's name, inspired by the Japanese river otter, a Kochi specialty, is well loved locally. Since the venue tends to get crowded from the evening onward on the day of the fireworks display, it's a smart move to finish your meal and souvenir shopping here during the day. The shop is stocked with items popular as take-home gifts, such as Kochi bonito flakes and local sake.
Tips
About a 5-minute drive from the Susaki-Higashi Interchange on the Kochi Expressway, or about a 10-minute drive from Susaki Station. Ample parking is available. To avoid restaurant crowds, arriving right at noon is recommended. Storing your souvenirs in the car lets you move around lightly until the evening fireworks.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 30 minutes. Arriving before the lunch peak lets you get seated without waiting
