About this spot
The Yonago Gaina Festival Fireworks Display is held at the Yonago Port quay starting at 8 pm on Sunday, August 9, 2026. Gaina is a San'in dialect word meaning big or amazing, and true to its name, about 4,000 fireworks launch one after another into the night sky over Lake Nakaumi. Viewed from the quay facing the water, nothing blocks your view of the fireworks, and the sight of large blooms reflected on the water's surface is spectacular. On clear nights, the fireworks open against the distant silhouette of Mt. Daisen — a view unique to Yonago. The finale's rapid-fire barrage brings an overwhelming climax, wrapping the entire night sky over the harbor in light.

Be sure to check the official announcements from the Yonago Gaina Festival Executive Committee for whether the display will proceed in bad weather. Roads around Yonago Port and the area near Yonago Station get very congested afterward. If traveling by train, check the return schedule for JR Yonago Station in advance, and it is a good idea to shift your departure time slightly after the show ends. The path can get dark underfoot, so make use of your smartphone's flashlight function or a small light for a safe trip home.
Best time to visit
Plan around the event time of 8:00 to 9:00 pm. Settle into your seat before the start and wait while enjoying the night view of Lake Nakaumi.
