Approximately 7,000 fireworks illuminate the night sky of the Chiyo River in a climactic finale
About this spot
This is the Citizen Cooling Fireworks Festival that marks the finale of the "Shansshan Festival," Tottori's representative summer festival. Approximately 7,000 fireworks launching from the Chiyo River's riverbed brilliantly color Tottori's summer night sky. The reflection of fireworks light on the water's surface combined with the sound of launches echoing across the riverbed creates a powerful viewing experience unique to a riverside setting. Diverse programs featuring star mines and large fireworks continue, and during the finale's rapid-fire sequence, the sky fills with spectacular blooming fireworks. Together with the bustle of the umbrella dance that inspired the Shansshan Festival's name, this special evening closes out Tottori's summer.

Check in advance with Tottori City or the festival's official announcement regarding cancellation due to bad weather. After the event ends, return traffic toward Tottori Station will be heavy all at once. It's recommended to enjoy the lingering atmosphere on the riverbed for a while before departing to avoid the crush. Some areas may be dark underfoot, so having a smartphone light or small flashlight on hand is reassuring.
