About this spot

This umi-no-eki (a roadside station by the sea) is located in Kushima City, Miyazaki Prefecture, near the border between Miyazaki and Kagoshima. Many visitors also come here together with the adjacent Dolphin Land (イルカランド). The free-admission seafood market stocks fresh fish and shellfish landed in Shibushi Bay (志布志湾), along with processed goods and meat. You can also eat at the restaurant or oyster hut inside, making this a worthwhile spot to venture out from central Shibushi to taste the seafood of southern Kyushu.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from the Shibushi Castle Ruins (志布志城跡). The parking lot is spacious and easy to use. The dining area can get crowded in the evening, so on the day of the fireworks it's a good idea to eat early. It's also reassuring to pick up snacks and drinks here for the fireworks venue. Nearby shops are often closed after the fireworks end, so stock up on what you need at this point.

About 2 hours. Coming in the early evening lets you eat and shop at a relatively relaxed pace
