About this spot
A shopping street spreading along the Horikawa Canal near JR Aburatsu Station (JR油津駅). In recent years, vacant storefronts have been converted into restaurants and cafés, and the area is now filled with casual dining spots featuring local seafood and Nichinan produce—set menus, rice bowls, and more that families can easily visit. A wooden drawbridge called "Horikawa Bridge" (堀川橋) spans the canal, and simply strolling along the riverside offers a taste of Nichinan's charming port-town atmosphere. It's a convenient distance for a light meal before swimming and ideally located as a stop on the way to Daidotsu Beach.

日南市にある大堂津海水浴場は、2026年は7月4日(土)から8月31日(月)まで開設され、遊泳時間は9時から16時30分までです。砂浜には幼児用プールが設けられているため、小さな子ども連れでも波の高さを気にせず水遊びをさせやすいのが大きな魅力。シャワーやロッカーも整い、海の家も出るので、着替えや休憩の心配なく1日過ごせます。駐車場は無料で利用でき、費用をかけずに家族で海水浴を楽しめる、日南海岸らしいのどかなビーチです。
Tips
遊泳・駐車場ともに無料。シャワーやロッカー、海の家の利用は施設により有料の場合があります。遊泳時間は16時30分までなので、着替えの時間を考えて16時過ぎには水から上がるのがおすすめ。夏の砂浜は熱いのでビーチサンダルが必携です。
Tips
A few minutes' walk from JR Aburatsu Station. There are coin parking lots around the shopping street. Since you'll be swimming after eating, be mindful of overeating and choose a lighter lunch option. It's also convenient for stocking up on drinks and beach supplies.
Best time to visit
Takes approximately 1 hour. Arriving around 11 AM before the lunch rush makes seating easier and is recommended.
