Swim until evening on shallow sands, with clam-digging too

Kiwa-La Beach (キワ・ラ・ビーチ 岐波海水浴場) lies in Kiwa, Ube City (宇部市岐波), and in 2026 is open from Friday 10 July to Monday 31 August. The shallow sands and gentle waves make water play safe even with small children, and when the tide goes out you can dig for clams. Alongside Maru no Ie (マールの家), with changing rooms, hot showers and a rest room, there is a cooking area, a campsite and toilets, so the facilities are there for a full day out. Free parking for about 50 cars also makes access by car easy. After lunch at Tokiwa Park (ときわ公園), it is time for the climax of the day: playing in the blue sea right through to evening.

Tips

Swimming is free, hot showers 200 yen and the clam-digging experience 250 yen. About 20 minutes by car from Tokiwa Park (ときわ公園). Summer sand gets hot, so beach sandals are a must. Allow time to change and aim to wrap up comfortably before sunset.

Best time to visit

From just after 13:00, the afternoon lets you watch the tide and enjoy the sea at leisure until evening
