Funato Beach (舟渡海水浴場), in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture (岩手県久慈市), is open in 2026 from Friday 17 July to Monday 31 August. Free parking is provided, along with temporary showers, toilets and drinking fountains, so families face less of a burden getting ready — that is the appeal. Funato Rest House (ふなどレストハウス) stands by the shore with hot showers available from 10:00 to 16:00, making it easy to rinse off sand and stickiness and get ready to head home. In the clear Sanriku (三陸) waters that Kuji is known for, from splashing at the water's edge to playing in the sand, enjoy yourselves to the full until evening.

Tips

There is no particular guidance on fees, so check the notices on site or ask staff on the day. The hot showers at Funato Rest House (ふなどレストハウス) run only until 16:00, so allow time to use them. When the sun is strong, guard against it with a parasol or a hat.

In the afternoon the sun eases a little, and you can enjoy the sea until the rest house closes at 16:00
