Located in the mountains of the Nakamura district, Dankei Falls is a rare waterfall made up of two cascades, the male falls (雄滝) and the female falls (雌滝), flowing side by side. The male falls is known for having a cave behind it, letting you view the scenery through a curtain of falling water. The walking path leads right to the base of the falls, and the cool air surrounded by trees is perfect for a summer stroll. Before heading to the beach, you can cool off in the chilly mist from the falls.
Tips
A few minutes' walk from the parking lot to the falls. The cave behind the falls can be slippery underfoot, so sturdy walking shoes are safer than sandals. You may get splashed by mist, so wear clothing that can get wet.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. In summer, afternoons tend to get crowded with visitors seeking relief from the heat, so a morning visit is recommended.
