A hilltop park holding Hitomaru Shrine (人丸神社), associated with the poet Kakinomoto no Hitomaro (柿本人麻呂), where the observation deck offers sweeping views of the mouth of the Gonokawa River (江の川) and the Sea of Japan (日本海). The grounds are ringed by trees and stay relatively cool and easy to walk even in summer, which is part of the appeal. Stone steps and walking paths let you move about a little with your children while enjoying the views. Getting some gentle exercise in before the pool makes the afternoon in the water all the more enjoyable.
Tips
From the car park to the shrine and observation deck there are gentle slopes and stone steps, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Insect repellent is reassuring in summer. Keeping the visit short and heading to the pool before midday leaves comfortable time.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The morning, before the sun grows too strong, is most comfortable
